The Federal Trade Commission (website) approved last June (2004), for all American's to have the right to get a copy of their credit reports once a year. This pertains to the 3 major credit bureau's: Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union.
The dates for the phase out across the country are:
- December 1, 2004 Western USA, which so far has resulted in server load issues.
- March 1, 2005 Midwest
- June 1, 2005 Southern USA.
- September 1, 2005 Northeast and US territories
Per the FDC guidelines, credit agencies are to allow three methods for consumers to obtain their free on line credit reports. They are: website, toll free number, mail address.
